What is your occupation/employer? Entrepreneur.
Where are you originally from? (where you grew up) I grew up in Sheridan.
How long have you served on the SSD Board of Education? Four years.
What drew you to serve on the Board? A desire to make a difference in the community.
What do you enjoy most about the position? The ability to make positive changes for our children.
Tell us a little about your education/experience/background? I am a graduate of Sheridan High School and earned an Accounting degree from Southern Arkansas University. I went to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers, then became the CFO for RoofConnect and now am more of an entrepreneur. I currently am an owner in 10 businesses (Patriot Construction, RoofConnect, PaveConnect, Grant County REIT, SecureConnect, Platinum Roofing, Platinum Paving, SolarConnect, AguaSeal and HoopPhi.) I have served on many boards including United Way, Professional Retail Store Maintenance (PRSM), and IFMA. I chair and founded the MFLS board and many church boards through the years.
Any info about your family or pets you’d like to share? My wife Misty is the greatest wife on the planet and I have three wonderful children (Lanie, Justin and Canon). My youngest is a senior in high school and the other two are in college. My family is super close and very supportive of the community and the school district.
What is your favorite meal? I like just about anything my mom cooks, but Burritos are my favorite.
What is your dream vacation? (Assuming money and time are not an issue.) I want to visit Greece.
What are your hobbies? After work, family, and extra church responsibilities, I have very little leftover. I don't have time for much, but I like to play basketball, golf and go to the lake with the family.
Something about you most people might not know is ... I have read every book on Teddy Roosevelt that has been written.
On February 1, 20 Sheridan High School students attended a CPR certification class offered by the Sheridan Fire Department. These students are all taking an Emergency Medical Responder class during Jacket Time at SHS. The class is taught by Bill Remow, a social studies teacher and Sheridan Fire Department firefighter/EMT. The students will also be soon getting certified in Stop the Bleed.
Tonight is senior night for and the last home meet for our Yellowjacket wrestlers. Sheridan is hosting a dual meet against Southwest (LR) and Bauxite. The event will be in the bottom SHS gym beginning at 5:30. Concession is cash-only. Let's support our Jackets!
Congratulations to Cassidy Sproles, a seventh-grader at East End Middle School, who won today's Grant County Spelling Bee held at McKenzie Hall. Finishing second was George Lachowsky, also a seventh-grade student at EEM. Angel Castro, a fifth-grade student at East End Intermediate School, finished third. What is your occupation/employer? TMK Properties.
Where are you originally from? (where you grew up) I’m a proud lifelong resident of Sheridan and Grant County.
How long have you served on the SSD Board of Education? One year.
What drew you to serve on the Board? I became interested in serving after covering the board and the district extensively as a journalist. When a vacancy arose last election cycle, I jumped all over it. Some might find it odd that a childless individual in their 20’s would want to serve on the Board of Education, but this community is my home. This is where I will raise my future kids. I’m fighting to ensure that they, as well as the current students, have access to the same high-quality education that the district provided me as a K-12 graduate. Plus, as a fairly recent graduate myself, there are certain student issues that I understand better than anyone!
What do you enjoy most about the position? I have really enjoyed developing the relationships with everyone along the way. I get to work with some awesome individuals in this position, and I can say that each of them have had a tremendous impact on me. I have also really enjoyed challenging the status quo (even if that means I’m in the minority). There’s a tendency to do things a certain way just because they’ve always been done that way, and that can be detrimental to an organization, in my opinion. I’ve enjoyed being a fierce advocate for raising the bar and refusing to accept anything short of our full potential as a district. We are truly building something GREAT here!
Tell us a little about your education/experience/background? I’m a proud K-12 graduate of Sheridan. I graduated with distinguished honors in 2018 and obtained degrees in political science and criminal justice from Henderson State University in 2022. I’m currently attending classes to obtain my real estate license.
What is your favorite meal? A steak dinner from Texas Roadhouse.
What is your dream vacation? (Assuming money and time are not an issue.) Snow skiing. The beach is overrated.
What are your hobbies? I enjoy hunting and golfing.
Save the Date! Sheridan High School CAP conferences for current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be held on March 14 from 12-7 p.m.. Each student will be required to attend a 15-minute CAP conference along with their parent or guardian to be counted present for the day. Virtual conference options are available as well. We asked them each a few questions about themselves and their lives. Today's profile is SSD Board of Education President Jeff Lisenbey.
What is your occupation/employer? Lunday & Associates, Inc.
Where are you originally from? (where you grew up) Sheridan.
How long have you served on the SSD Board of Education? 24 years.
What drew you to serve on the Board? My degree was in Biology with a Masters in Education, and I began my career as a Biology/Chemistry teacher, and my heart was in education. When I decided to leave teaching to enter into a corporate job, I wanted to stay plugged into education, so I ran for the board.
What do you enjoy most about the position? Helping our administrators and teachers make positive impacts on our students and community.
Tell us a little about your education/experience/background? I completed a BS in Biology and a Masters in Education from UALR and then taught Biology/Chemistry for five years at Poyen High School.
Any info about your family or pets you’d like to share? I have two wonderful children. Olivia (married to Bailey McIver), and they have two children (Cohen and Camilla), and Reese (married to Breanne) and they have one son (Walker). My children and my grandchildren are my greatest joys.
What is your favorite meal? Fried deer steak and fried potatoes.
What is your dream vacation? (Assuming money and time are not an issue.) Anywhere tropical laying on a beach listening to the waves.
What are your hobbies? Hunting, fishing and chasing grandkids.
Something about you most people might not know is ... During my five years of teaching, I was selected to participate in a summer work program at the National Center for Toxicological Research. While conducting the research, we were able to isolate some changes in gene expression due to aflatoxin exposure, and our work was published in the Journal of Carcinogenesis.
The Sheridan JROTC competed on Saturday in the Malvern Drill and Raider Competition against 14 schools from all over Arkansas. The JROTC COED Color Guard, consisting of Katie Reynolds, Anthony Bates, Hector Aguilar,and Victoria Smith, took first place. The JROTC Female Raider team, consisting of Aubre Frank, Grace Knighten, Fallyn Mangrum, Haidyn Long and Kylie Fennessy, took third place.
The Sheridan varsity cheerleaders competed last weekend in the NCA High School Nationals competition in Dallas. They scored a 92.55 and secured fourth place in the Advanced Performance Crowd Leading-Small division and received the Superior Showmanship Award. These ladies had two outstanding performances to end a great year! Congratulations!
The Internet Safety Night at SHS that was postponed last week has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in the SHS Library (not the cafeteria as originally planned). Hope to see you there!
The Lady Jacket varsity girls' basketball game at Pine Bluff, originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26, will be rescheduled for a date to be determined. The JV game tomorrow at Pine Bluff will still tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity boys' game at about 6 p.m.
Join us for Internet Safety Night on Thursday at East End Middle School. The event starts at 6 p.m.
Sheridan athletes who have committed to play in college will participate in a National Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 7. They will sign in Yellowjacket Arena beginning at 10 a.m. The public is invited to this exciting event. It will also be live-streamed on the YJ Network.
Congratulations to Sheridan junior guard Noah Romine, who was voted by fans as SBLive’s Arkansas High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 8-14! Romine totaled 23,238 votes (37.5% of all votes cast).
Recapping his stats for the week, SBLive noted, "The 5-foot-8 Romine scored 15 points with 8 assists in a 59-52 loss to Hot Springs Lakeside. Romine scored 32 points in a 66-45 victory over White Hall. The 32 points is a career high."
