Sheridan Junior High Beta Club is excited to be partnering with Ozark Water Projects in a service-based learning project that will provide clean water to the people of Haiti. The students will be conducting a used shoe drive because for Ozark Water Projects used shoes mean clean water.
So how are used shoes turned into clean water? Ozark Water Projects is a nonprofit organization that works with schools, churches and civic organizations around the state to not only educate others about the global water crisis but also allow them to take an active role in helping others simply by collecting and donating their used shoes. The shoes collected are eventually sold with the profits being used to drill water wells and repair hand pumps in villages throughout the country. Throughout the project, students will not only be learning about what life is like in 3rd world countries, but they will also be taking an active role to make a difference in the lives of others.
The Sheridan Junior High Beta Club asks that everyone please help by cleaning out their closets and dropping off their used shoes at Sheridan Junior High School. Boxes are set up in the lobby for the community to donate shoes. They will be collecting shoes through Feb. 28. Donors should place each pair of shoes in a Walmart type sack and tie it when donating.

Students at Sheridan Junior High were introduced to the Ozark Water Projects in an assembly today in which a student volunteer tried on "water bottle shoes" such as a person in Haiti might wear. Also, that volunteer attempted to carry a large container of water as many children must do on a daily basis.
