On March 31, 2017, students in Whitney Johnson’s first-grade class at Sheridan Elementary School traveled to the Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Pandemonium event at the River Market in Little Rock. There they delivered 389 pounds of pop tabs that were collected at SES.
"Out of the 30 schools in Arkansas that participated in this event, SES collected the most," said SES Principal Lindsey Bohler. "Thank you to all students, families, teachers and community members who participated in this year’s event!"
In total, Arkansas schools collected nearly 4,000 pounds of pop tabs.
The pop tab program raises funds and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas. Money from pop tabs is raised through recycling and helps pay for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their children receive medical treatment at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Sponsors of the SES pop tab collection, which took place from January through March, were first-grade teachers Sara Allen and Whitney Johnson.
"I am so proud of Sheridan Elementary for participating in this project," said Johnson. "My students enjoyed learning about how they can make a difference, even if it's something small."
