The River City Conference junior high basketball tournament continues today with semifinal games. Boys' games are being played at White Hall High School, and girls' games are at White Hall Middle School. Sheridan's eighth-grade girls and ninth-grade girls have both advanced to the semifinals. The eighth-graders will play today at 4:00, followed by the ninth-graders at 5:15. Go Yellowjackets!

The Grant County Spelling Bee was held this morning, and 41 students from grades 3-8 competed for a chance to move on to the Arkansas State Spelling Bee. After 10 rounds, George Lachowsky, a 6th grader from East End Middle School, was declared the winner. Oliver Graham, a 4th grader from Sheridan Intermediate School, came in second, and Thiago Ramos, an 8th grader at Sheridan Middle School, placed third. The Grant County Spelling Bee has been rescheduled for Friday, February 10.

The Sheridan School District will be closed Friday, Feb. 3, due to continued power outage at multiple schools within the district, as well as downed trees and blocked roadways in areas. We currently do not know when power will be restored. Tomorrow will be an AMI day, and learning will be virtual.

The district will utilize another AMI day, and learning will be virtual. All school-related extra-curricular activities scheduled for Thursday will be canceled. The Sheridan vs. Lake Hamilton senior high basketball games originally scheduled for January 31 have now been rescheduled for February 24.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, all Sheridan junior high basketball games against Jacksonville have been canceled. This includes the boys' games at Jacksonville and the girls' games at home. No make-up date has been determined at this time.
