Sheridan's ninth-grade Yellowjackets beat Jacksonville last night, 24-6. Eli Turner ran for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns, as Sheridan's ninth-graders improved their record to 3-3. Congratulations! #strongertogether

Congratulations to Taylor Donnelly, who was named a winner of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence this morning! Donnelly, an agricultural mechanics teacher at Sheridan High School, won a total of $50,000, including $35,000 for her program and $15,000 for herself. A total of $1.25 million is being awarded to 20 high school skilled trades teachers in 15 states. Donnelly is the only prize winner in Arkansas. Watch the story tonight on KATV and KTHV. Sheridan High School sophomore Thatcher Allen shot a 95 yesterday in the state tournament at the very difficult Hurricane Course in Bryant. He finished 52nd overall out of the top 72 golfers in the state. Great job Thatcher! Go Jackets!



The Yellowjacket tennis team competed in the 5A South Conference Tournament Tuesday at Hot Springs Lakeside. SHS junior Olivia Jablonski won both her matches and advanced to today's semifinal round. In doing so, she also earned a spot in next week’s state tournament. (Olivia is pictured with Coach Anthony Nail.)
Jett Spann and the teams of Courtney Mayberry/Natalie Szeflenski, Owen Reynolds/Nathan Uptagrafft, and Chloe Ashmead/Julie Lieu all advanced to the quarterfinals but fell just short of advancing to state. Rose Lewellen, Colton Smith, and the team of Gage Hyatt/Bryce Jones also qualified for the conference tournament and competed today.

Sheridan School District families: This is a reminder of Parent/Teacher Conferences and early dismissal two days this week. Grades 6-12 will have Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, Sept. 26. Grades Pre-K-5 will have Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, Sept. 29. All schools in the district will dismiss early at 1:30 p.m. on each of those days.

The Yellowjacket golf team participated the past two days in the 5A-South district tournament in Hot Springs. Thatcher Allen shot an 87 and qualified to compete in the state competition Oct. 4 at Hurricane Golf Club in Benton. Coach Scott Hoffman said of the team, "I'm very proud of our Yellowjackets as they have battled for two days in 100 degree heat. They have been working since July in sweltering heat, thunderstorms, and you name it. They all worked hard and really improved." Of Allen's performance, Hoffman said, "This guy got it done today! He has worked so hard after coming up just short last year. Lots of effort, work, and determination paid off."




Today is National I.T. Professionals Day, and the Sheridan School District is fortunate to have some outstanding people in our Technology Department. To our Yellowjacket Technology professionals, thank you for all that you do!

The Yellowjackets fought hard but lost 28-21 in overtime Friday night to a good West Memphis team. They will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 23 at Jacksonville. More photos from last night will posted on Monday.

Dr. Karla Neathery, superintendent of the Sheridan School District, spoke to the Sheridan Rotary Club on Tuesday. Among other things, Dr. Neathery updated club members on multiple construction projects in the district, some recent student achievements, short-term needs and long-term goals for the district.

The Sheridan High School College Fair is taking place Monday, Sept 12 in the SHS cafeteria!! All students and parents are invited to attend. Regardless of your career interest, there will be information available for occupations ranging from automotive to welding and accounting to wildlife management. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
