The Sheridan School District Board of Education voted last week to promote Dr. Missy Walley to Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Walley is currently serving as the district’s Director of Secondary Education, a position she has held since July 2024. She will officially begin in her new role starting July 1.

“We are excited to promote Dr. Walley to the role of Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning,” said Superintendent Chad Pitts. “Her extensive experience and commitment to educational excellence will be invaluable in advancing the district's mission of providing a high-quality education in a safe environment. Dr. Walley’s leadership, passion and dedication will continue to make a positive impact on the future of our district, and we look forward to her contributions in this new role.”

Prior to joining the Sheridan School District, Dr. Walley served as Director of the Office of Special Projects and Policy with the Arkansas Department of Education from 2019-2024. Before joining the state’s education department, she served in multiple roles with the Prescott School District from 2015-2019, including Prescott High School Principal and School Improvement Specialist/Assistant Superintendent.

Dr. Walley has a broad range of experience in education, beginning in 1993 with Claiborne Parish Schools in Haynesville, La., and has won numerous honors and awards during her career. She has held various educator’s licenses in Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Louisiana. In Arkansas, she holds educator’s licenses in elementary education, special education, gifted and talented education, English as a second language, building level administrator, and district administrator.

Dr. Walley earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Louisiana Tech University, and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Alabama. She received her Principal certification, as well as Superintendence and Education System Administration certification from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She earned her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Georgia.

She and her husband, Stacy, have three grown daughters.
