The Sheridan Lady Yellowjacket track team finished third in Class 5A at the state indoor championships Saturday, Feb. 2, in Fayetteville. The Sheridan boys finished in a tie for 11th.
SHS sophomore Skylar Sterritt was near unstoppable, placing first in the 60-meters (7.71), 200-meters (25.79), and high jump (5’2”). She finished second in long jump (17’5.75”). Sterritt was also first overall in the 60-meters. Sterritt’s high jump set a new indoor school record. Her 38 individual points would have placed seventh in the team rankings.
Senior Nathan Uptagrafft led the way for the Yellowjacket boys, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.46), which set a new school record. He also set a new school indoor record in the triple jump (41’6”).
Other Lady Jackets who placed in the top 8 included Macy Moring, third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.18); Carley Hancock, fifth in shot put (29’8”), and the Sheridan 4x400 (4:50.98) and 4x800 teams (11:23.64) each finished seventh. The 4x400 team consisted of McKynley McGarity, Chloe Reed, Courtney Mayberry, and Lakin Shaw. The 4x800 team was Bella Norman, Lakin Shaw, Chloe Reed, and Joanna Loretz.
Yellowjacket boys finishing in the top 8 included Josh Walker, sixth in the shot (42’4”), and Hunter Sredin, eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.36). Freshman Isaiah Stephens set the indoor school record in the long jump (21’1”).
