The Sheridan School District welcomes back a familiar face, as Rick Treadway has been named as the district’s next athletic director. Treadway coached the Sheridan Lady Yellowjacket basketball team from 1987-2011. He is currently the assistant athletic director and head girls’ basketball coach at Pulaski Academy, where he has served since 2011. The SSD Board of Education voted to hire Treadway at its regular monthly board meeting Monday night.
In total, Treadway has 811 wins over 42 years of coaching, which ranks #4 in Arkansas. He has won 23 Coach of the Year honors and coached in three Arkansas high school All-Star games. His teams have won 21 conference championships, made the state playoffs 36 years, advanced to the state semifinals 10 times, and the state finals in 2016.
“We are thrilled to have someone of Rick Treadway’s character and experience return ‘home’ and take the reins of the Sheridan athletic department,” said Dr. Karla Neathery, superintendent of the Sheridan School District. “Coach Treadway was a long-time, outstanding contributor to this school, the athletic department, and the community, and we couldn’t be more excited to announce his return. Everyone who knows him talks at length about his integrity and leadership skills, and we believe he will be a positive guiding influence for our student-athletes and coaching staff.”
Treadway received his bachelor’s degree from Harding University in 1981 and completed his master’s degree in Education from Harding in 1982. Treadway played collegiate basketball for the Bisons, finishing as one of the top assist and scoring leaders in the university’s history.
Treadway and his wife, Keely, have three adult daughters who were raised in Sheridan, three sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren.
