Sheridan Elementary Library/Media Center

Mission Statement

Sheridan Elementary Library Media Specialists will work with teachers and students to provide a variety of materials which will support the curriculum of the school and foster lifetime habits of reading, learning, good citizenship and productive use of leisure time.

About the Library

The Sheridan Elementary  Library Media Center (LMC) serves approximately 600 elementary students in thirty classrooms which include pre-k through grade 2. Approximately 50 staff members use the LMC to introduce, support and reinforce concepts taught in the classroom.

Approximately 9500 titles are housed in the Sheridan Elementary LMC for student and staff  use. Eight student computers are available for Accelerated Reader testing, library searches and research purposes.

Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First and Second Grade classes meet in the LMC for skills lessons focusing on the Arkansas Library Media Frameworks adopted by the Arkansas Department of Education in 2008.  The students are also allowed to free-flow on a daily basis as they read and test in the Accelerated Reader program.

SES Library Media Center Staff

The SES Library Media Specialist is Dottie Goode.  Dottie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education plus fifteen graduate hours in Reading and Elementary Education from the University of Louisiana Monroe and a Masters Degree in Library Media and Information Technology from the University of Central Arkansas.  Dottie has served in the  education field since 1981 and has been employed with  the Sheridan School District since 1989.

Accelerated Reader (AR)

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a web-based support tool used at SES to motivate, monitor, and manage student reading practices in kindergarten, first and second grades.  Approximately 5,000 ATOS leveled books in our LMC support this program.  As students begin reading, they read a book on their individual reading level (ZPD), take a test and receive immediate feedback.  The program is designed to allow students to see success while improving their reading skills. Rewards and a “Star Reader” bulletin board in the LMC are used as incentives.

Please click on "Accelerated Reader" located on the left in the navigation bar for more information about AR or to access available AR titles.
